Discipline
The DeWitt High School Behavior Code, for which students may be disciplined, is applicable to all the following times and activities: A. while a student is attending school. B. while a student is on a school vehicle. C. while a student is at a school-related event or activity. D. while a student is under the jurisdiction of the school. E. while a student is on school property or going to or from school. F. conduct at any time or place that directly interferes with the operations, discipline, or general welfare of the school. Arson: Maliciously or willfully setting fire to or doing any act which results in the starting of a fire to a building or property. All violations: public act 328 requires school boards and school administrators to impose expulsion as a penalty for arson. Cheating: Cheating includes but is not limited to: *Use of unauthorized assistance in taking of quizzes, tests or exams, altering teacher records. *Dependence upon the use of sources unauthorized by the teacher. *The acquisition, without permission, of tests or other academic materials belonging to the teacher. *Plagiarism: use of published or unpublished work of someone else's. Also includes the copying of homework done by another student, the use of materials prepared by another person or agency engaged in selling of term papers or other academic materials. *****A student who knowingly assists another student in cheating (as defined here) will be subject to the same disciplinary action.
Disrespect: Any form of disrespectful language or behavior will not be tolerated. All students will be expected to treat everyone with respect, and courteous behavior. The following is not intended to be exhausted and includes, but is not limited to: A. Insubordination: The act of failing to respond to or carry out a reasonable request by school personnel or profanity/verbal inappropriateness directed at any staff member or visiting adult.
B. Classroom Disruption: Any behavior that disrupts the teaching or learning process in the classroom.
C. Obscenity and profanity: the act of using language in any form which are offensive to the general school and community standards.
D. Persistent disobedience: continued disruptive behavior and/or continued failure to obey the rules of the school:
