Hello Runners,
It looks like winter is definitely here to stay. I hope everyone is still trying to get a run
in these days. Right now we have the 300
mile club going. All you have to do is
try to run 300 miles from December 1st to February 29th. As an incentive, you will receive a long
sleeve Striders 300 Mile Club t-shirt.
It is hard to maintain your training throughout the winter, so hopefully
this will be some incentive to get out and run.
Also, I hope everyone has kept track of their mileage this year. At the Strider banquet you are eligible for a
mileage shirt. The shirts come in
increments of 500. So if you have been running a
lot this year make sure to come to the banquet and pick up your shirt. You earned it!
Right now we have our Winter Series in full
swing. Saturday the 5th is
the New Years Resolution Run. On
February 9th is the Sweetheart Run.
Both are at Max & Emily’s in downtown
Since the weather has taken a cold turn on us and now
we are dealing with snow and ice I just want to remind everyone to be a little
more careful when running. Not only do
we have to worry about falling down, which will probably happen at the point
when you are seen by the most people that you know. We also have to worry about hitting a patch
of ice and over extending our leg too far.
This is a common injury that happens to a lot of people that run in the
winter. So work on form and distance,
not speed. Believe me when I say that
you are getting a great workout slipping and sliding down the road.
The Striders have had a very successful year for
racing. I enjoy looking on the website
and seeing where everyone has traveled to run.
I would like to ask everyone to take time out and check out the website at www.edzone,net/~mphstr If you ran a race that is not on the results
section let us know. Also, we are
attempting to build an email list. This
way we can email everyone about upcoming races, events and results. You can send an email to Harry Plouff , hplouff@yahoo.com,
to get on this email list.
Thank you all for a great year. I hope to see you at our upcoming events or
just out on the road. Happy
running to all.
