Dances With Dirt Results 2007
Mt. Pleasant Striders Running Club team of Tim Bechtel, Harry Plouff, Byron
Doty, Stan Curtiss, and Walt Kennedy placed 2nd
in the Dances with Dirt Trail Relay Saturday, September 8. (as shown in picture L-R)
371 teams, of 5 runners each, converged on Hell, MI to
participate in the 100K (62 miles) one day relay race. Dances With Dirt was
selected by “Trail Runner Magazine” as one of the 12 most difficult trail
running events in North America. Each leg, of the 15 legs event, was rated
for hills, poison ivy, grunge, and wetness.
Runners could expect some of all four elements on each leg as the trails
wandered through swamps, across rivers and through extreme trails.
The Mt.
Pleasant team placed 33
overall but with the age handicap system finished 2nd, covering the 62 miles in
9 hours and 9 minutes.
Also running for the Mt.
Pleasant Striders was the team of Tracy Collins, Cindy Verwey,
Kris Joynt, Julie Maxom,
and Gayle Grant. This team finished 128th overall,
13th out of 24 female teams, with a time of 11 hours and 51 minutes.
