MTA tom.JPGMichigan Technical Academy (MTA) Deploys Mobile Learning to 7th and 8th graders with the assistance of Sprint

1:1 Learning, 21st Century Skills are more than just words at MTA. Their recent commitment to Mobile Learning, Equal Internet Access for students is now available to their entire 7th and 8th grade students through a partnership with Sprint. Over 200 Dell Mini Netbooks are being deployed which have been provided and specially priced through their partnership with Sprint. Wireless broadband service is also provided by Sprint on their 3g wireless network. Funding assistance has been provided through Erate and Title 1 funding.

MTA’s initial interest was to provide the best opportunity for their students to excel early by embracing the technology that they will be using when entering High School, College and the business world. By providing Netbooks to all students in the 7th and 8th grades, MTA’s goal is to have these students comfortable with the technology, keep them fully engaged utilizing technology and increase test scores.
MTA will begin with all students in the 7th and 8th grades (apx. 200 students) with future plans of deploying throughout the entire Academy (apx. 935 students) and will be teaching ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies.

Tom Kozak states “The use of mobile learning will enable our instructional staff to provide lesson enhancements to our students that promote higher order thinking and stimulate their intellect as they utilize 21st century skills to increase productivity and learning.   This is a technical age, and our students must become better equipped to handle the needs of tomorrow.  By integrating technology into our curriculum, we offer our students an opportunity to prepare for their future in the global marketplace.”
