Scientific Method and
the Metric System: We will use the scientific method to conduct
experiments and investigations throughout the school year and learn
how to convert units within the metric system.
Atomic Structure:
We will be studying the structure of an atom, how atoms combine to
form compounds and some of the trends in the Periodic Table. We
will also be learning the structures of several common molecules.
The Cell: We will
learn the difference between plant and animal cells as well as
common cell processes. We will also learn the structure and
function of various organelles and observe cells using a microscope.
Waves: We will
learn about the properties of mechanical and electromagnetic waves.
We will also study sound and light.
Forces and Motion:
We will be studying Newton’s Laws of Motion and learning about
velocity, acceleration, and momentum. This unit will prepare us for
our trip to Cedar Point this spring.
Plate Tectonics:
We will study maps of the earth’s tectonic plates, learn about
continental drift, and effects of plate movement including
earthquakes and volcanoes.
Astronomy: We
will compare our sun to other stars, learn about double stars, and
understand ways that scientist know about objects that are very far
away.
