I have been scanning since my wife got me a Uniden Bearcat BC147 XLT for Christmas of 1996, which I currently still use.  However for my 25th birthday in 1999, my wife got me a Uniden Bearcat Sportcat SC150B that allows me access to 800 Mhz and aircraft frequencies.  The search function is wonderful as well.

Since I live just outside Ithaca, (near Alma) Michigan which is located in Gratiot County, most of my channels are programmed w/ Gratiot frequencies.  I also listen to Isabella County emergency traffic which includes Mt.  Pleasant, Central Michigan University, and The Soaring Eagle Casino.  Recently I experimented with my SC150B by hooking it to my omni-directional TV antenna and amplifier.  This drastically improved VHF reception and allows me to pull in Bay, Saginaw, Montcalm, and other nearby counties.

I belong to a Michigan scanner mailing list that routinely posts new or renewed frequencies.  I do know quite a bit about the different units in Gratiot county and some about those in Isabella county.  I have provided links to some of the information I have gathered.
