    Computer Technician Intern

    General Statement of Duties:

    The position of Computer Technician Intern is designed to provide assistance to the District Technology Director and support the advancement of the education of a student working in the area of Information Technology.

    The Computer Technician Intern will be evaluated and assigned on a Semester or Summer season basis. Interns must be currently enrolled as a full-time Fulton high school student with a documented career interest in information technology or as a college student enrolled in at least one information technology course.

    Responsibilities include installation and maintenance of computer hardware / software in a Macintosh and Windows environment. Basic knowledge of networks is essential. They will install equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and troubleshoot.

    Education: A Fulton High School Student or a High School Diploma

    Experience: 2 years hardware and software troubleshooting experience preferred

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of products including Word, Excel, and Power Point
    • Working knowledge of Internet software including Netscape and/or Internet Explorer.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities will include, but not be limited to the following description items:

    • Good working knowledge of Macintosh and Windows Operating Systems
    • Ability to install/deploy Macintosh and Windows based computers
    • Assist with network installations and configuration
    • Ability to understand, diagnose, maintain, and trouble shoot PC hardware and software effectively
    • Be able to run diagnostic programs to locate malfunctions
    • Know enough about systems software to determine if the malfunction is in the hardware or in the software
    • Ability to test and replace component parts of computer hardware
    • Excellent documentation skills
    • Practical problem solving skills and solid trouble shooting skills a must
    • Possess organizational and communication skills
    • Strong communications skills and the ability to explain corrective procedures in non-technical terms to non-technical users
    • Be able to work well with other people in a team oriented environment
    • Must be self motivated and work with minimal supervision
    • Ability to train end-users in an non-threatening environment
    • Possesses hands-on experience in system installation, configuration and maintenance
    • Desire to learn new things.

    Performance Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and facilitate the repair of computer technology in computer labs, networks, media centers, classrooms, and offices
  • Facilitate the deployment and configuration of personal computers
  • Install operating systems, email accounts, ip addresses, web browser installation, local workstation network configuration and software configuration
  • Assist in upgrading computer software.
  • Accompany installing dealer's technician during on-site service when necessary and when possible limiting the amount of time for out source consultants costs.
     
    Reports to: District Technology Director
  • The ability to take directions, execute instructions from technology director and administrative staff.
  • The District Computer Intern is accountable to the technology director, to determine work priorities and a calendar work schedule
  • Works days when the District Technology Director is not on site must be approved in advance
  • Other duties as assigned by the District Technoloy Director

  • Salary and Job Benefits:

    • The Computer Technician Intern hours will be limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week during the School calendar year and a maximum of 40 hours per week during the Summer break
    • Compensation will be the at the current minimum wage rate.
