Fulton's Elementary Library currently houses approximately 7000 titles. The library features an extensive reference section and non-fiction books with emphasis on biographies, folktales, legends, astronomy, palentology, biology, botany and zoology. The fiction books are color coded for easy access and appear on the shelves at three different levels: picture books, intermediate fiction, and advanced fiction. New since 1997 are several titles in the Parent Section of our library. Subscriptions to three daily newspapers and over 20 magazines comprise our periodicals. Our Pirate Comics Club enables members to read selected comic books during visits to the library.

Students have access to a computer for research, word processing, and Accelerated Reader testing. They are also welcome to work and read at tables or on any one of several bean bag chairs. Displays and programs help make the library a busy, cheerful, and inviting place to visit.

All twenty-three elementary classrooms visit the library on a weekly basis. Students, however, are encouraged and welcome to visit and check-out books at any time during school hours. Over 1000 books are circulated weekly. Periodicals are also available for student check-out.

Library Skills are an integral part of the library curriculum. It is hoped that the teaching of the various library skills will:

 1. Create a lasting interest in literature.
 2.
Develop an appreciation of the library as a prime resource in the search for knowledge.
 3.
Lay the groundwork for intelligent library usage by teaching the skills needed to be successful in the elementary and later the middle and high school programs.

Classroom visits to the library include skills activities, books talks, puppet shows, storytelling, and book dramatizations. Students in Pre-School through Third Grade also have a hands-on activity to enhance the weekly story, show, or book talk. Activities for students in grades four through six vary according to the curriculum being worked on in the classroom.

Fulton's Elementary Library is the center for many special activities throughout the school year. Title I tutoring takes place four days per week. Special assemblies such as Tom Woodruff's artistry, Potter's Park Animal Talks, Dr. ?'s insect presentation, and the Red Cross Bicycle Safety Program are conducted in the library. Kindergarten Round-up, Pre-School Graduation, Santa's Secret Shop, as well as numerous business meetings and social events are conducted in the library.
