Coaching Staff

Coach Mike Brya

            Michael (Mike) Brya has been the DeWitt High School varsity baseball head coach since 2002.  Before taking the helm as varsity coach, he was the junior varsity  head coach under Phil Harner.  As a member of the Social Studies department, Mike teaches U.S. History, U.S. Government, and Advanced Placement Government & Politics.

            Brya is a 1995 graduate of DeWitt High School, lettering in baseball (and a member of the 1993 Class B State Championship team), basketball, and football.  He was a four-year member of the baseball team at Hope College (winning three MIAA championships) before graduating in December 1999 with a Social Studies degree and an English minor.  He received a masters degree in kinesiology (coaching) from Michigan State University in 2005.

            His wife, Sarah, is a faculty member at Herbison Woods in DeWitt teaching 5^th and 6^th grade Physical Education.  They reside in DeWitt with their daughter, Gabriella (Gabbie).

Coach Phil Harner

            Philip (Phil) Harner served as the DeWitt High School head varsity baseball coach during the 2000 and 2001 seasons.  He has since been the junior varsity baseball baseball coach since 2002.  As a member of the Science department for the past seven years at the DeWitt Junior High School, Phil teaches 7^th Grade Science and Natural Science.  Phil has been an educator in DeWitt since 1976.

            Harner is a graduate of East Lansing High School, lettering in baseball and basketball.  He graduated with a Parks and Recreation degree in 1973 and an Elementary Education degree in 1975, both from Michigan State University.

            His wife, Michaline, is a retired elementary teacher.  They have three children (Jenna, Amanda, and Philip) and are proud grandparents to Kellen and Isabella.  They reside in Lansing.
